GAZA: The Chief of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) has said that Israel’s ongoing bombardment campaign in Gaza has killed nearly 200 of its team members.

“This is by far the largest loss of personnel killed in a single conflict or natural disaster since the creation of the United Nations — a reality the world must never accept,” Philippe Lazzarini said in a post on the social media platform X.

He noted that when the war in Gaza started on October 7, no one thought that it could reach this grim milestone.

“These are not numbers. These are our colleagues and our friends. They are teachers, doctors, nurses, engineers, support staff, technicians who spent their life supporting the community,” he said.

According to Gaza health ministry Israel’s war on Gaza, now in its 296th day, has killed at least 39,324 Palestinians — the majority of them women and children –– and injured 90,830 others, with more than 10,000 estimated to be buried under the debris.

UNRWA on Friday said that 9 out of 10 Palestinians have been forcibly displaced in Gaza due to Israel’s war on the besieged enclave.

United States Vice President Kamala Harris has also called upon Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to reach a ceasefire deal with Hamas soon.
