ISLAMABAD: United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will meet Pakistan’s top civilian and military leadership during his three-day official visit to Islamabad, where discussions are expected to focus on regional and international developments, as well as cooperation between Pakistan and the United Nations.
Guterres arrived in Islamabad on Tuesday for the three-day visit at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar.
Acting Foreign Secretary Ambassador Nabeel Munir received the UN chief upon his arrival at Islamabad airport, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
UN Secretary-General H.E. António Guterres arrived in Islamabad today to undertake an official visit to Pakistan from 6–8 October 2026, at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar.
Upon arrival, the Secretary-General was received by Acting Foreign Secretary Ambassador Nabeel Munir.

During his visit, Guterres is scheduled to meet President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.

The UN Secretary-General will also visit the headquarters of the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) and attend a briefing at the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
Regional and international developments
The visit will provide an opportunity for Pakistan and the UN leadership to exchange views on regional and international developments and reaffirm Islamabad’s longstanding cooperation with the world body.
Pakistan is expected to highlight its efforts to strengthen multilateralism and promote international peace and security during Guterres’ engagements.
The country’s progress in disaster preparedness and early-warning systems is also expected to feature prominently during the UN chief’s visit, particularly during his engagement with the NDMA.
The Foreign Office said the visit reflects Pakistan’s continued support for multilateralism, with the United Nations at its core, as well as its abiding commitment to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter.
