ISLAMABAD: The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, has extended full support to Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to end the US-Iran war.
During a telephonic conversation with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Tuesday, he commended Pakistan’s efforts in advancing regional peace, a Foreign Office statement said.
He appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role in convening the Islamabad talks last week. António Guterres expressed the UN’s full support for Pakistan’s continued efforts in this regard.
“DPM/FM reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to promoting dialogue and diplomacy for peace and stability in the region,” the statement said.

Earlier, Pakistan-mediated talks between the United States and Iran concluded in Islamabad after more than 21 hours of intensive negotiations, with all sides signalling that diplomatic engagement will continue.
The negotiations were led by US Vice President JD Vance and Iranian Parliamentary Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, who headed their respective delegations in discussions covering a wide range of sensitive issues.
US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that peace talks between the United States and Iran could resume in Pakistan “over the next two days”, according to an interview with the New York Post.
“You should stay there, really, because something could be happening over the next two days, and we’re more inclined to go there,” Trump was quoted as saying.
Trump said Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, was doing a “great job” on the talks.
“He’s fantastic, and therefore it’s more likely that we go back there,” Trump said.
