KYIV, Ukraine: On Tuesday, Ukraine reported that its air defence systems successfully intercepted five Russian missiles and 60 attack drones during a second consecutive night of intense aerial bombardments.

The attacks, which continued from a massive Russian assault the previous day, resulted in significant casualties and damage.

The Ukrainian Air Force disclosed that Russia launched a total of 91 projectiles, including 10 missiles and 81 Iranian-designed drones, from multiple regions within Russia. Despite the effectiveness of Ukraine’s defences, the attacks caused the deaths of four individuals and injuries to 16 others. President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the fatalities and ongoing rescue operations, emphasizing the need for justice against what he termed “crimes against humanity.”

The intensity of the bombardments was evident in Kyiv, where residents endured air raid sirens and explosions throughout the night. Local authorities reported that the strikes led to deaths in both the southeastern Zaporizhzhia region and the central city of Kryvyi Rig. The missile strike on a hotel in Kryvyi Rig was particularly notable, following a recent similar incident in Kramatorsk that resulted in the death of a Reuters safety advisor.

These attacks underscore the ongoing conflict’s severe impact on Ukrainian infrastructure and civilians, highlighting the persistent threat posed by Russian military actions since the invasion began in February 2022.
