ISLAMABAD: The British government has launched a major initiative to empower Pakistan’s emerging leaders, researchers, and entrepreneurs by offering fully funded opportunities to study, research, and scale businesses in the United Kingdom.
Applications are now being accepted for three distinguished programmes: the Chevening Scholarships, the Chevening Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies Fellowship, and the Commonwealth Startup Fellowship.
Each initiative is designed to equip talented Pakistanis with the knowledge, skills, and international connections needed to drive meaningful change in their home country and beyond.
British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Jane Marriott CMG OBE, expressed strong confidence in the potential of Pakistani applicants. “Pakistan has no shortage of talent,” she said. “These programmes help outstanding Pakistanis develop the skills, networks and ideas needed to lead institutions, grow businesses and tackle some of the world’s biggest challenges.”

What the programmes offer
The Chevening Scholarships provide full financial support for a one-year master’s degree at any university in the United Kingdom. This opportunity is open to individuals who can demonstrate strong leadership qualities, a history of influence, and a clear vision for how they will contribute to their communities after completing their studies.
The Chevening Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies Fellowship is tailored for mid-career academics and professionals. It offers a distinctive chance to conduct independent research at the University of Oxford, one of the world’s most respected academic institutions.
For those with an entrepreneurial spirit, the Commonwealth Startup Fellowship supports high-potential business founders. Participants gain access to UK-based expertise, mentorship opportunities, and practical guidance to strengthen their ventures and prepare for sustainable growth.

Comprehensive financial support
Successful applicants will receive coverage for all major expenses associated with their time in the United Kingdom. This includes tuition or programme fees, return airfare, visa costs, and a stipend to cover daily living expenses.
The comprehensive nature of the funding ensures that financial barriers do not stand in the way of talented individuals pursuing these life-changing opportunities.
Focus on authenticity
In a notable move, the British High Commission has emphasised the importance of originality in applications. Candidates are required to draw upon their own personal experiences, ideas, and ambitions when submitting their materials.
Those found to have used AI-generated content in their responses may face disqualification, underscoring the value placed on genuine, individual voices.
Building bridges across borders
Participation in these programmes extends far beyond academic or professional development. Scholars and fellows will join a vibrant international community, experiencing diverse cultures and perspectives while forging enduring relationships with peers from around the world.
These connections often translate into lifelong collaborations that transcend national boundaries.
A growing legacy of impact
The UK-Pakistan partnership continues to strengthen through these educational exchanges. Currently, more than 2,000 Chevening alumni are active across Pakistan’s public service, business sector, academia, media, and civil society. Their contributions demonstrate the lasting value of these programmes in shaping leaders who drive progress.
On a global scale, the Chevening alumni network includes over twenty current or former heads of state or government, highlighting the programme’s remarkable track record of nurturing individuals who rise to positions of significant influence.
