The United Kingdom (UK) is considering ways to strengthen the country’s economy by increasing the number of working hours for international students.

UK considering increasing work hours

According to The Times, UK authorities are considering increasing the paid work hours from 20 to 30 hours per week or eliminating the cap entirely. This is meant to alleviate shortages in industries like hospitality and retail.

Furthermore, the UK government is looking into ways to lower obstacles and encourage students to work more.

However, the ideas are in their early stages and have yet to be approved by the entire administration.

This is among Home Secretary Suella Braverman’s proposals to reduce undocumented immigration in the country.

Allowing international students to work longer hours will help fill labour market gaps while discouraging them from overstaying their visas or becoming illegal migrants. Furthermore, the transfer would benefit the students by allowing them to gain relevant work experience and increase their earnings.
