UK Authorities Warn Parents of Fines over Leaving Cars Engine on While Waiting for Children

ISLAMABAD: Guardians and parents in United Kingdom’s Liverpool have been warned regarding leaving vehicle engines on while waiting for children at schools. This practice is known as idling. Local authorities have announced a token fine of much as £20.

As per a report cited by a media in Liverpool, approximately 11 percent of drivers do not turn off their engines while outside schools and waiting for their wards.

The fine comes under the label of emission offenses and will force drivers to pay up £40 if the initial fine of the FPN or fixed penalty notices are not paid within four weeks.

Regarding idling, local experts have stated that it damages the environment, wastes fuel, damages and is detrimental to children’s health.

Parents Advised Wearing Coats Instead of Keeping Engines of their Cars on

Authorities have advised the concerned motorists that if need to keep warm while waiting for their passengers, then they should wear extra gloves, hats or coats instead of keeping the engine on to provide fuel for the vehicle’s heater.

Greg Wilson, a car insurance expert who runs the quotezone.co.uk platform stated that while it may be tempting to keep engines running during colder months, drivers need to understand their actions through breathing harmful fumes the schoolchildren’s health can potentially be damaged along with wasting fuel.

Wilson added that as compared to adults, children tend to breathe faster and thus are likely to inhale more pollution. The parents and guardians are wasting their money which could be saved along with damaging the environment in the long run.
