DUBAI: A plane from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) carrying the second batch of household electricity generators on Friday landed in Warsaw, the capital of Poland, as part of assistance for Ukrainian civilians facing freezing temperatures amid the ongoing war.

The aid package aims to provide warmth in Ukrainian homes after Russian strikes hit energy infrastructure across the country, causing power outages as civilians battle the harsh winter conditions.

The UAE announced earlier in December that it would send a shipment of 2,500 household generators to the war-torn country. The first batch of 1,200 generators reached Ukraine last month, with the rest delivered on Friday, according to Emirates News Agency (WAM).

Latest package part of UAE’s $100mn aid pledge to Ukraine

The latest support is a part of the $100 million humanitarian aid pledged by the UAE to Ukraine.

While responding to the United Nations Ukraine Flash Appeal and the Ukraine Situation Regional Refugee Response, the UAE has dispatched eight planes carrying 360 tonnes of food supplies, ambulances and medical aid for Ukrainian refugees in Poland, Moldova and Bulgaria since war began in February.
