PATNA: Two drunk passengers were arrested on a Delhi-Patna IndiGo flight by the Patna Airport Police on Sunday evening for consuming alcohol on a domestic flight, which is prohibited with the assistance of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).

Sources said there was no ruckus onboard, and they apologized and stopped when a crew member intervened. As per protocol, the airline informed the Air Traffic Controller. The passengers were arrested on arrival.

Onboard the flight

When the passengers boarded, they were already drunk. They tried to continue drinking during the 80-minute-long flight. The CISF took them into custody. Passengers were later handed over to the police at the airport.

As per sources of the civil aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), a passenger informed the crew that some people were drinking beer inside the flight. They were a group of six people. The pilot came to know when the crew saw the empty cans and intervened in the seat pockets. Two passengers confessed and were handed over to security along with relevant documentation, they added.

This incident comes days after the arrest of a man named Shankar Mishra, who urinated on an elderly woman while drunk on an Air India New York-Delhi flight last month, creating a huge outrage over the delay in action against him. Chandrasekaran said in a statement on Sunday that they fell short of addressing this situation the way it should have been.
