ISLAMABAD: The Saudi Ministry of Defense reported that two unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) heading toward the Shaybah oilfield were intercepted and destroyed in the Empty Quarter.

Major General Turki Al-Maliki, spokesperson for the Ministry, confirmed the successful neutralization of the drones before they could reach strategic facilities.

The interception follows recent security developments in the region and is part of ongoing efforts to safeguard key energy infrastructure. The Ministry of Defense emphasized vigilance and readiness to respond to any aerial threats.

In parallel, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan engaged in telephonic discussions with international counterparts, including Pakistan and Russia, focusing on regional security and coordination.

The calls addressed recent incidents and underscored the importance of cooperation to maintain stability.

The Saudi government reaffirmed its commitment to defending national sovereignty and critical infrastructure while maintaining diplomatic channels to prevent escalation of the Iran war.

The Iran war is in the mid of its second week. The US-Israel alliance has stepped up strikes against Iran, which in return is targetting Israel and the US bases and assets in the Middle East.

Although Iran earlier stated that it would not target the neighbouring countries, but reports of drones and missiles keep pouring in from the entire region from Saudi Arabia to the UAE.
