Two-day Gandhara Festival to be Held in Taxila from Sunday

ISLAMABAD: The Gandhara Art Village near Taxila is set to hold the two-day Gandhara festival from Sunday. The event is being organized by Rawalpindi Arts Council (RAC) and the Pak-Romina friendship association to highlight the ancient civilization of Taxila.

According to RAC’s Director Waqar Ahmed, the main objective of the festival was to highlight the region’s old civilization to inform the youth about the country’s culture, history, and art.

Ahmed added that the reason behind organizing the festivals wa to highlight Punjab’s culture along with that of the ancient civilizations of Gandhara.

Gandhara festival to include book fair, art exhibition

The RAC Director added Buddha statues made by Pakistani sculptors would also be exhibited at the festival in order to promote the rich Gandhara civilization. 

He said that the Gandhara festival will include a book fair, an art exhibition, a folk dance, and a Sufi night.

Pakistan-Romania friendship association’s Chairman Zaildar Ahsan Shah said that the festival aimed to sensitize the public and the diplomatic community that is based in Islamabad about the province’s ancient heritage.

According to Shah, the event will help the province in attracting foreign and local investment in the tourism sector.

He elaborated that Buddhist countries played a key role in upgrading their holy sites spread throughout the province. Shah said that there was a close relationship between ancient civilizations and culture as any region’s civilization impacts its culture.
