WASHINGTON: Former President Donald Trump has expressed agreement to sit for an interview with the FBI, as the agency continues to probe what motivated 20-year-old Thomas Crooks to assassinate the former President at a rally in Pennsylvania.
He told Fox News that the FBI officials are coming in on Thursday to see him. Police personnel noticed the person who attempted to assassinate Donald Trump more than an hour before the July 13 shooting in Pennsylvania, and took an image to share with other law enforcement agencies, an FBI official disclosed on Monday.
“The gunman was identified by the law enforcement agencies as a suspicious person,” Kevin Rojek, the special agent in charge of the FBI’s Pittsburgh field office said. He added a local officer took a photo of Crooks and then sent it to other law enforcement departments at the scene of Trump’s rally that day. Around 30 minutes later, Kevin Rojek said, SWAT team operators saw Crooks using a rangefinder and browsing web sites.
Though the FBI is not the department responsible for probing any lapses in Donald Trump’s security, FBI officials are putting together a timeline of the entire developments, he added.
Earlier, in a statement, the FBI said that Donald Trump was struct by a bullet during the campaign rally. The statement from the bureau marked the most conclusive law enforcement account of Biden’s injuries and followed some ambiguous remarks earlier from Director Christopher Wray.
The remarks also drew fury from Trump and his allies and also strengthened conspiracy theories that have flourished on both sides of the political passage amid a dearth of solid evidence following the July 13 assault.
