DAVOS: A senior Palestinian official has said that the World Economic Forum in Davos is an example of how the global system has failed to address the issue of the people of Palestine.

In interview with Arab News, Dr. Mohammed Mustafa, head of the Palestinian Investment Fund and a former deputy PM said that they have been saying that there is a double standard in the world system.

Dr. Mohammed Mustafa expressed these remarks when Israeli President Isaac Herzog arrived in Davos to attend “special conversation” with the forum’s founder, Klaus Schwab, and its head, Borge Brende.

Dr. Mustafa said that the global system has failed them all the time. President Mahmoud Abbas is not taking part in the forum, Arab news reported. Despite a very limited Palestinian presence, Dr Mustafa said that they are determined to stay the course and to reach their goal.

A spokesman of the World Economic Forum said that the serious humanitarian and security situation … will be a major focus of the dialogues this week.

Mustafa added the world “must not underestimate the size of the humanitarian crisis” in the Gaza Strip. Over 350,000 homes had been destroyed in Gaza, he maintained.

According to media reports, around 70 percent of the residential homes and buildings in the Gaza Strip have been destroyed by the brutal Israeli bombardment. The attacks have also damaged churches and mosques, schools, hospitals and vital healthcare infrastructure in Gaza.

Of the thirty-six hospitals in the strip, only 8 are still functioning, at the time of writing, which has created a health crisis as doctors are forced to perform surgeries in the without anesthetic and power.
