ZURICH: Fabulous singer Tina Turner has died at the age of 83 in Switzerland, local media reported on Wednesday.

In a statement, her spokesperson said that the ‘Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll’ died on Wednesday due to illness in her home in Switzerland. The statement added that the world has lost a role model and a music legend.

The American-born star was one of rock’s great singers and most fascinating performers. Tina Turner was known for her electric on-stage presence and a string of hits, including Proud Mary, The Best, What’s Love Got to Do With It, and Private Dancer. The “Queen of Rock” first found recognition in the 1960s alongside her former husband Ike Turner, with the classic song Mountain High, River Deep among their repertoire.

Her popularity as a solo singer waned in the 1970s, but her career was revived when the star inked an agreement with Capitol Records in the 1980s.

Meanwhile, the White House also mourned the “massive loss” of Tina Turner on Wednesday. Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said termed her death as sad news. She added that Tina Turner was a music icon,” saying that she was personally “a huge fan.”
