ISLAMABAD/WUHAN: Three years after the city of Wuhan, China, was shut down due to an unknown virus, locals stated Monday that they were optimistic for the future and no longer feared Covid-19.
Since Beijing ordered Wuhan walled up in January 2020 to stifle the epidemic, Covid has wreaked havoc on the planet, killing millions and throwing the world’s economy into disarray.
Eyes on the future
But many people worldwide are already returning to their everyday lives, and Beijing last month reversed its strict zero-Covid policy after nearly three years of torturous lockdowns and compulsory mass testing.
A city of 11 million people Wuhan in China, was unrecognizably different from the post-apocalyptic images that engulfed it in early 2020 when the country celebrated Lunar New Year this week. Families, some of whom were not wearing masks, poured into packed shops and flung stones along the Yangtze River while purchasing toys.
