TEL AVIV: Thousands of people staged a protest demonstration on Saturday evening against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s new government plans. The protestors termed his plans as a threat to democracy and freedom.

According to AP, the protesters gathered in the central city of Tel Aviv days following the most right-wing government was sworn in. The protest demonstration was led by Arab and left-wing members of Israel’s parliament. The protestors contend that the proposed plans by the new government will hinder the judicial system and widen gaps in society.

The protesters criticized Justice Minister Yariv Levin, who on Wednesday revealed the government’s long-promised overhaul of the judicial system that aims to weaken the Supreme Court.

Protestors said that they are really afraid that their country is going to lose democracy and they are going to a dictatorship just for reasons of one person which wants to get rid of his law trial. The protestors were referring to Benjamin Netanyahu, who was charged on corruption allegations in 2021, charges that he has dismissed.
