SAN FRANCISCO: A tech executive was taken into custody in the murder case of Bob Lee, the founder of multibillion-dollar tech company Cash App, who was found dead in San Francisco on April 4 after being targeted in an apparent stabbing attack.
Police said the suspect knew the victim but declined to divulge a possible motive for the crime.
Lee, who was employed in cryptocurrency and digital payments startup Mobile Coin as the chief product officer, was found stumbling through the streets of San Francisco, bleeding from a stab wound. Lee, 43, who also worked as the chief technology officer of Square, later died of his wounds at a hospital.
Police said that Nima Momeni, 38, the founder of software company Expand IT, was taken into custody on suspicion of murder in the Bay Area city of Emeryville, where his company is headquartered, San Francisco Police Chief William Scott told a press conference.
He said that they could confirm that Lee and Momeni knew each other. He, however, declined to confirm the nature of their relationship or why they were together that night.
Earlier, the San Francisco Police Department said that their officers responded to the report of a stabbing in the Rincon area, where they found “a 43-year-old adult male victim suffering from apparent stab wounds.”
“Officers offered aid and summoned medics to the scene. The victim was transported to a local hospital with fatal injuries. The victim succumbed to his injuries despite efforts by first responders and medical staff,” said the police statement earlier.
