KABUL, Afghanistan: Two Taliban regime personnel, including an intelligence officer, were killed and two others injured after unidentified gunmen opened fire in Afghanistan’s northern Sar-e-Pul province, according to Afghan media reports.
The attack, which was also confirmed by Taliban regime officials, comes amid intensifying resistance by anti-Taliban regime armed groups and a series of security incidents that highlight the Taliban regime’s failure to ensure peace and maintain stability in the country.
According to Afghan media reports, Taliban regime intelligence officer Mullah Amarullah Sultani and another Taliban member were killed in the attack.

Public resentment against the Taliban regime is growing in Afghanistan due to repression, poor governance and worsening security conditions. National Resistance Front of Afghanistan (NRF), Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF) and more than 2,000 young people have voluntarily expanded resistance activities against the regime beyond traditional strongholds, with operations in Badakhshan, Panjshir, Baghlan, Herat, Takhar, Kunduz, Balkh and other provinces.
Badakhshan is becoming the first domino in the wider fall of the Taliban regime across Afghanistan.
Taliban senior official killed in Badakhshan
Earlier, a senior Taliban regime official was killed in an armed attack in Badakhshan province.
Zabihullah Amiri, the Taliban-appointed Director of Information and Culture for Badakhshan, was shot dead on Tuesday while travelling along the Faizabad–Baharak road, according to provincial Taliban officials.

Ehsanullah Kamgar, spokesperson for the Taliban’s security command in Badakhshan, said Amiri’s vehicle was targeted by armed men riding motorcycles. He confirmed that Amiri was killed in the attack.
Kamgar added that Amiri’s security guards returned fire, killing one of the attackers at the scene. Security personnel have since launched an operation to trace and arrest any remaining suspects involved in the assault.
Resistance expands across Afghanistan
Afghan resistance groups continued to inflict significant losses on Taliban regime forces in northeastern Afghanistan. On Saturday, resistance groups destroyed a military convoy in Baghlan province and killed four senior Taliban commanders.
According to the Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF), its fighters ambushed a Taliban regime reinforcement convoy in Doshi district of Baghlan after tracking its movement from Kabul through the strategic Salang corridor, a key route linking the Afghan capital with the country’s north.

The resistance group said the convoy, which was carrying regime fighters, weapons and military equipment to Badakhshan province, was destroyed in a rocket attack.
According to resistance forces, seven Taliban regime fighters were killed and six others wounded, adding that all resistance fighters involved in the operation withdrew safely.
In neighbouring Badakhshan province, the AFF said resistance fighters killed four senior Taliban commanders during ongoing operations in Zibak district.
Those named by the group included district commander Mullah Shadab and border company commanders Maulvi Gul Ahmadi, Mullah Faridullah and Qari Umari Lazari.
The resistance group further stated to have overrun several Taliban checkpoints and captured strategically important high-ground positions around the Zibak border battalion headquarters.
The reported attacks come amid an apparent expansion of anti-Taliban activity across Afghanistan’s north and northeast.
Anti-Taliban resistance groups operations
Resistance groups, including the AFF and the National Resistance Front, have in recent months reported operations in Badakhshan, Baghlan, Takhar, Kunduz, Kapisa, Balkh, Herat, Panjshir and the Andarab valley.
Contrary to the Taliban claim of restoring nationwide security since returning to power in August 2021 following the withdrawal of US-led forces, armed opposition groups continue to stage periodic attacks.
Latest operations follow earlier resistance attacks in Yaftali Sufla and elsewhere in Badakhshan, with the campaign now extending into Baghlan, Takhar, Kunduz, Kapisa, Balkh, Herat, Panjshir and Andarab, underscoring the widening geographic scope of armed opposition.
