BÜRGENSTOCK, Switzerland: Switzerland has lauded the mediation role played by Pakistan that steered the negotiation process leading to the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Iran and the United States.
Swiss Vice President and Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis said this during a meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on the sidelines of the ongoing technical-level talks between the USA and Iran at Burgenstock, Switzerland, said an official statement on Sunday.

The Swiss Foreign Minister also expressed Switzerland’s willingness to contribute to and support the follow-up process.
The Prime Minister thanked the Swiss side and noted that effective implementation of the Islamabad MoU would contribute to regional peace and global economic stability.

Switzerland’s sustained investment in Pakistan
The Prime Minister further acknowledged Switzerland’s sustained investment in Pakistan and expressed hope that Swiss companies would further expand their presence in the country.
He also offered Pakistan’s assistance in providing highly skilled IT and cybersecurity experts to meet Switzerland’s growing demand in these sectors.
In addition, both sides discussed opportunities to enhance cooperation in mutually beneficial areas, including pharmaceuticals, tourism, and climate change and disaster risk reduction.
Prime Minister Sharif also extended an invitation to the Swiss Foreign Minister to visit Pakistan at mutually convenient dates.
Important opportunity for global peace
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif described the start of the US-Iran negotiations in Switzerland as an important opportunity for global peace and said the talks had become possible due to the prudent leadership of US President Donald Trump.
Speaking alongside US Vice President JD Vance and Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani at the opening of the Pakistan-mediated talks, Prime Minister Sharif said dialogue remained the best path to resolving disputes and promoting stability.
PM Sharif also praised Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for his role in the diplomatic efforts that helped bring the parties to the negotiating table, adding, “We can work together to establish unity in the world.”
