Sweltering Heat Takes Toll on Hajj Pilgrims as Heatstroke Cases Increase

RIYADH: The Saudi Ministry of Health reported on Thursday that hundreds of pilgrims participating in the Hajj season have suffered from heatstroke since its commencement.

According to a statement released by the ministry, a total of 1,098 cases have been recorded, indicating a surge in the number of individuals affected by the extreme heat.

With this year’s Hajj season taking place during the summer months, temperatures have soared, posing significant challenges for pilgrims. The ministry emphasized the importance of taking extra precautions and adhering to the issued instructions to ensure the well-being of all participants.

Advises for Hajj Pilgrims to Avoid Heatstroke

In order to mitigate the risk of heatstroke, the ministry advised pilgrims to use umbrellas for shade, stay hydrated by consuming ample fluids, avoid strenuous physical activity, and strictly follow health guidelines. Additionally, the ministry assured that its hospitals in Makkah were fully prepared to offer comprehensive medical care to all pilgrims in need.

As the Hajj season progresses, authorities continue to prioritize the health and safety of the pilgrims, urging them to remain vigilant and prioritize their well-being amidst the challenging weather conditions.
