VANCOUVER, Canada: Thousands of Sikhs are likely to actively participate in the Khalistan referendum at the Gurunanak Sikh Gurdwara in British Columbia, Canada on October 29 (tomorrow).
The very same Gurdwara served as the backdrop for the harrowing incident on June 18 when Indian government operatives killed Hardeep Singh NiJJar, a Sikh separatist leader. This incident had raised serious concerns about the safety and well-being of Sikh community abroad advocating for the creation of Khalistan.
The Canadian Prime Minister’s statements on the issue confirmed suspicions of a genocide against Sikhs in India, bringing this issue to the forefront of global attention. The Sikh community, both locally and globally, reacted with a sense of anger and a call for justice in the wake of Hardeep Singh Nijjar’s tragic killing.
Khalistan independence movement is gaining momentum after Nijjar’s assassination. More than 100,000 Sikhs are expected to participate in the referendum at the Shaheed Nijjar Center in Canada.
President Council of Khalistan, Dr Bakhshish Singh Sandhu has asserted that the assassination of Canadian Citizen Hardeep Singh Nijjar has ignited unwavering support for Khalistan’s independence within the Sikh community.
Ahead of the voting on Sunday, Dr Bakhshish Singh Sandhu announced here at Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara that the Sikh community is all set to cast a historic number of votes in the referendum at Shaheed Nijjar Centre.
45-year-old Nijjar was fatally shot outside the same temple in Surrey, a Vancouver suburb with a significant Sikh population, where the second phase of the referendum is scheduled.
The veteran Khalistani leader mentioned that Canadian PM Justin Trudeau had affirmed in the Canadian parliament that Nijjar’s assassination was the work of Indian secret agents, operating from Indian consulates in Canada.
Furthermore, the world’s leading nations, including the USA, Australia, Canada and New Zealand have held India responsible for Nijjar’s killing and have called for India’s accountability as India acted as a rogue state. India has openly violated Canada’s sovereignty and independence by killing and threatening Canadian nationals.
The Sikh leader further said that the world may not have believed in Sikhs when they claimed that India was involved in their genocide but the statement by the Canadian PM has proven that Sikhs were right.
Coordinator of Sikhs for Justice, Avtar Singh Pannu said that agents of Indian secret agencies shot Nijjar with 50 bullets in an attempt to prevent him from organising the Khalistan Referendum in Canada.
The deceased was an advocate for a Sikh homeland in India’s Punjab and was killed minutes after he delivered a speech in which he encouraged the community to join and cast their votes in support of independence.
The Khalistan Referendum voting campaign is being organised under the supervision of the independent Punjab Referendum Commission which will announce the results when all phases are completed. The voting started on October 31, 2021, in London, has so far been held in several cities across Europe, Canada and Australia.
