VISAKHAPATNAM, India: South Africa Women clinched a nail-biting three-wicket win over Bangladesh Women with three balls to spare in the 14th match of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, holding their nerve in a tense final over to successfully chase down 233.

Chasing 233 for victory, the Proteas reached 235/7 in 49.3 overs, thanks to vital contributions from Chloe Tryon (62 off 69), Marizanne Kapp (56 off 71), and Nadine de Klerk, who finished unbeaten on 37 off 29 balls to seal the win under pressure.

Bangladesh Set Competitive Target

Batting first, Bangladesh Women posted 232/6, built on a steady top-order effort. Sharmin Akhter top-scored with a composed 50 off 77, while Fargana Hoque (30), and skipper Nigar Sultana (32) added key contributions.

The innings gained late momentum through a brilliant unbeaten 51 off 35 by Shorna Akter, featuring three sixes and a strike rate of 145.71.

South Africa’s bowling was economical but lacked breakthroughs in the death overs. Spinner Nonkululeko Mlaba was the pick of the bowlers with 2/42, while Chloe Tryon and Nadine de Klerk picked one wicket each.

South Africa Fight Back from Early Collapse

South Africa’s chase got off to a rocky start, losing Tazmin Brits for a duck and slipping to 64/4. But a crucial 56-run knock from Marizanne Kapp steadied the innings before Chloe Tryon’s 62 turned the tide.

Tryon and de Klerk added vital runs in the closing stages, with de Klerk hitting timely boundaries to keep the required rate in check. Masabata Klaas (10)* supported her at the death as the pair guided the team over the line with three balls to spare.

Bowling Highlights

For Bangladesh, Nahida Akter impressed with 2/44, while Ritu Moni (1/29 in 10 overs) was exceptional in keeping things tight. Despite their disciplined effort, missed chances and late-innings pressure allowed South Africa to escape with a narrow win.
