ISLAMABAD: Social media has been flooded with praise for Pakistan following the historic signing of the ‘Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding’ between the United States and Iran, with users hailing the country’s role as a peacemaker on the global stage.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on Thursday that the memorandum had been electronically signed by both presidents and endorsed by him as the mediator. The 14-point agreement brings an end to the war initiated on February 28 and orders the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon.

“Team Pakistan has saved millions of lives,” one user wrote on X, while another described it as “a historic day for global peace.”

A Pakistani user posted: “Pakistan stands tall as the undisputed peacemaker of our time,” crediting the “bold and brilliant diplomacy” of the country’s leadership.

President Trump, who signed the memorandum at the Palace of Versailles in France, thanked Pakistan and Qatar for their role, saying both “worked so hard” and noting that Pakistan knew the key players quite well.

Barrister Danyal Chaudhry, Federal Parliamentary Secretary for Information, hailed the agreement as a landmark diplomatic achievement that would strengthen regional stability and ease global tensions.

The agreement has also drawn international recognition, with Japan’s foreign minister conveying deep appreciation for Pakistan’s sustained mediatory role throughout the process.
