HAMBURG: German police said on Thursday that several people were killed in a shooting in a church in Hamburg. German media reported that six people were killed and many injured in the shooting. Police issued a statement via its Twitter account and confirmed that the shooting occurred in Deelboege street in the Grossborstel area. It added that several people were seriously wounded in the shooting.

According to AFP, the police alerted people to a high level of danger in the area via an app. Police officials asked the residents to stay indoors, saying that the streets and roads nearby the church have been cordoned off after the shooting.
The attacker is believed to be among several dead found in the building, police claimed.
