ISLAMABAD: The Sindh pavilion at the ongoing Lok Mela in Lok Virsa Islamabad has attracted a major crowd, enchanting visitors with its vibrant display of the province’s rich cultural and traditional heritage. Visitors from various regions have been captivated by the array of cultural artifacts, handicrafts, clothes, showpieces, and local delicacies showcased at different stalls within the Sindh pavilion.
The exquisite craftsmanship exhibited by Sindhi artisans has garnered widespread praise, with visitors expressing enthusiastic curiosity about the unique items on display. Hand-made ajraks (traditional Sindhi shawls), jewelry, bags, shoes, and other artifacts crafted by talented artisans have been particularly popular among the attendees.
One of the highlights of the Sindh pavilion has been the cultural Sindhi dance performances, which have earned immense applause and admiration from the visitors. The lively and colorful dance forms have added to the festive atmosphere of the event, showcasing the vibrant cultural traditions of Sindh.
Habibullah Memon, an official from the Tourism Department Sindh, expressed his delight at the overwhelming response the pavilion has received. He emphasized that the primary objective of their stall is to spotlight the distinctive culture and traditions of Sindh. Memon commended the hard work and talent of Sindhi artisans, noting that their contributions not only bring recognition to their homeland but also deserve admiration and acknowledgment on a broader scale.
He extended a warm invitation to the public, encouraging them to immerse themselves in the captivating stories, vibrant colors, and melodious tunes that make Pakistan truly extraordinary. Visitors have appreciated the friendly environment at Lok Virsa and have praised the event for providing a platform for artisans. Kiran, a skilled craftsman from Karachi, appreciated the platform. She expressed her enjoyment of participating in the festival, highlighting the keen interest shown by visitors in her hand-made creations and the positive working experience she has had at the event.
Lok Mela Celebrating Pakistan’s Rich Cultural Heritage
Lok Mela stands as a vibrant celebration of Pakistan’s rich cultural heritage, captivating visitors with its diverse traditions, crafts, music, and flavors. Organized by the Cultural and Heritage Division at Lok Virsa Islamabad, this 11-day extravaganza (from November 3 to 13) is a testament to Pakistan’s commitment to preserving and celebrating its cultural diversity.
The festival features an array of attractions, including provincial pavilions, shopping and food stalls, musical performances, arts and crafts demonstrations, and traditional skills displays. Renowned performers, including Sufi and folk artist Areeb Azhar, along with musicians from across Pakistan, enchant the audience with traditional and fusion music played on various instruments.
Visitors to the festival can enjoy the traditional Khyber Pakhtunkhwa tea, explore unique handicrafts and souvenirs, and immerse themselves in the art of traditional crafts such as pottery and stone carving. The festival highlights the traditional Balochi dish, Sajji, prepared with grilled meat, offering attendees a delightful culinary experience.
This year’s Lok Mela also reintroduces two enduring elements of the festival: Folk Theatre and Putli Tamasha. Folk Theatre, a traditional form of Pakistani theater featuring live music, dance, and storytelling, adds a touch of nostalgia to the event. Putli Tamasha, a popular form of puppet show in Pakistan, provides a delightful entertainment experience for festival-goers.
