ISLAMABAD: In a significant display of regional unity, the 12th Meeting of the Heads of Border Services of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) concluded here on Friday, with member states approving a series of joint operations aimed at countering terrorism, extremism, and cross-border crime.

Pakistan, chairing the pivotal security dialogue, welcomed top border officials from across Asia and Europe as the bloc doubles down on collective defence mechanisms against emerging threats.

‘Solidarity’ operations pivot to new challenges

The high-level huddle, held at a critical juncture for regional security, saw delegates from all SCO members, including Belarus, China, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Tajikistan, exchange intelligence on border situations and approve a roadmap for joint action.

A primary focus was the formal approval of the results of the Joint Border Operation “Solidarity-2025,” described as a major success in curbing illicit activities along shared frontiers. Delegates further greenlit the planning framework for “Solidarity-2026,” while simultaneously endorsing a proposal from Tajikistan to host the subsequent “Solidarity-2027” operation.

Strategic alignment and forward planning

Beyond operational tactics, the meeting solidified long-term coordination by approving the 2027 Work Plan for the Group of Experts of the Border Services. Discussions also touched on the venue for the next meeting of the border chiefs, signalling a sustained commitment to this annual security forum.

Officials noted that the transparent exchange of views and the alignment of common positions were crucial for regional security and trust-building. “The constructive dialogue will contribute to further strengthening cooperation among our border services, while enhancing security and mutual trust along our shared borders,” read a joint statement issued at the close of the summit.
