LASBELA, PAKISTAN: At least 41 people were killed after a passenger bus, on its way to Karachi from Quetta, fell into a ravine on Sunday, local TV channels reported.
Bela Assistant Commissioner Hamza Anjum Nadeem, earlier said around 37 bodies had been recovered from the vehicle’s wreckage so far. However, the later search took the death toll to 41. The AC said that two persons were also wounded in the incident who have been referred to Karachi for treatment after initial medical aid.
He added that more than 40 passengers were on board the ill-fated bus. The incident occurred near the Chinki Stop in the Bela area of Lasbela.
Reckless driving caused bus crash: reports
Reportedly, the accident occurred due to speeding as the vehicle went out of the driver’s control causing it to crash into a bridge and land into the riverine, said police sources.
The coach caught fire after falling into the crater. The dead bodies have been shifted to a nearby hospital.
Rescue activities were underway with fire brigade, rescue and law-enforcement agencies present at the scene.
