Seven Killed in Vehicle Gas Cylinder Blast in Sargodha

ISLAMABAD: At least seven persons were killed and 13 others sustained serious injuries when an explosion, apparently caused by blast in gas cylinder fitted in the vehicle, ripped through the passenger vehicle on Bhalwal-Kot Momin road on Saturday, local media reported quoting police.

According to rescue officials, the ill-fated van was traveling from Bhalwal to Kot Momin in Sargodha area of Pakistan’s Punjab province when the tragedy struck. Witnesses reported hearing a deafening blast before the fire engulfed the vehicle.

The local authorities and rescue teams, including firefighters and paramedics, were swiftly dispatched to the scene. The rescue teams later brought the fire under control.

The identities of the deceased were yet to be ascertained. The Police, however, have started an investigation into the incident.

Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi has extended sympathies and condolences to the victims’ families. He has directed a comprehensive probe into the matter, also seeking a detailed report from the Regional Police Officer and Commissioner Sargodha.
