RIYADH: The Saudi Development and Reconstruction Programme for Yemen (SDRPY) has considerably advanced Yemen’s stability through an integrated economic approach in the first quarter of 2026.

A SAR1.9 billion development package launched in January, comprising 28 projects across key sectors including electricity, transport, health, education, and water, has expanded ongoing efforts in Yemen, bringing the total number of initiatives since 2018 to 268, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Friday.

This builds on the Kingdom’s broader support, which has exceeded $12.6 billion between 2012 and 2026.

Economic stability has also been reinforced through SAR1.3 billion allocated this quarter to support the Yemeni government’s budget, covering operational costs and public sector salaries. In the energy sector, Saudi oil derivative grants have continued to supply fuel to more than 70 power plants, helping sustain essential services such as hospitals and schools.

Key infrastructure developments include new phases of the Al-Abr road project and upgrades to Aden International Airport, aimed at improving connectivity and facilitating trade.

Healthcare and education remain central to these efforts. The Saudi Development and Reconstruction Programme for Yemen (SDRPY) has also fully operationalise hospitals in Socotra, Shabwa, and Mocha.

In the education sector, a new agreement with the Social Fund for Development has launched five model schools in Marib, Lahj, Al Dhale’a, Shabwa, and Abyan, as part of a wider plan to establish 30 schools across the country. Additionally, a rural education access initiative has entered its second phase, with plans to train 450 female teachers across six governorates.

International partnerships with the EU, UNESCO, and the World Bank have amplified these efforts.

A notable strategic collaboration with the EU includes a SAR9 million project to enhance water security in Marib.

These efforts are further supported by agricultural programmes aimed at strengthening food security, alongside community initiatives such as multi-governorate sports tournaments and cultural events like Socotri Language Day, all contributing to a more sustainable path toward Yemen’s recovery.
