RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil: Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan reaffirmed the Kingdom’s commitment to international cooperation and sustainable development, expressing a desire to foster effective collaboration through multilateral platforms.
His remarks came during the second day of the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where Saudi Arabia is participating as an invited state.
Representing Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, Prince Faisal took part in Monday’s opening session, thanking Brazil for hosting the summit and commending its leadership as this year’s BRICS chair.
Prince Faisal underlined the urgent global challenges that demand a unified response, emphasising the need to prevent further escalation and safeguard international security, Saudi Gazette reported.
Addressing the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, the Saudi Foreign Minister condemned Israeli attacks on medical infrastructure and civilians, describing them as serious violations of international humanitarian law and a threat to the rules-based global order.
“The suffering in Gaza cannot be ignored,” Prince Faisal stressed, calling on the global community to fulfil its legal and moral responsibilities by ensuring uninterrupted humanitarian aid and protection for civilians.
Prince Faisal urged immediate and serious international efforts towards ending the crisis and achieving a lasting peace based on international law and the two-state solution.
Shifting to the summit’s focus on climate, environment, and health, Prince Faisal reiterated Saudi Arabia’s commitment to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement.
He advocated for a pragmatic and equitable approach that considers the varying capabilities of nations.
As reported by Saudi Gazette, Prince Faisal also congratulated Brazil on hosting the upcoming COP30 climate conference and expressed hope for meaningful progress in tackling climate change.
Prince Faisal highlighted Saudi Arabia’s innovations in water conservation and environmental management.
He pointed to the establishment of the Global Water Organisation, which aims to promote fair access to water resources worldwide.
On the health front, Prince Faisal noted that Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 includes comprehensive reforms emphasising prevention and integrated healthcare.
He highlighted the Kingdom’s expertise in managing massive gatherings like Hajj and Umrah, as well as its development of early warning and preparedness systems — positioning Saudi Arabia as a regional leader in public health emergency readiness aligned with global standards.
