Saudi FM Participates in Meeting on Situation of Human Rights in Palestine, Universal Declaration of Human Rights: SPA

GENEVA: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s (KSA) Foreign Minister and chairman of the Ministerial Committee assigned by the Joint Arab-Islamic Extraordinary Summit, Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, participated on Tuesday in the meeting of the situation of human rights in Palestine and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, with the participation of members of the ministerial committee assigned by the Joint Arab-Islamic summit, and a number of nations, in Geneva, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

According to the SPA, in his speech at the session, he said that the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights coincides with the distressing and dire of human rights situation in occupied Palestine. The Foreign Minister pointed out that the world must believe in the significance of respecting and promoting human rights via multilateral cooperation, and in times of peace and war, as the Geneva Conventions and their Additional Protocols regulate the conduct of war to limit its damages and protect civilian population, forming the core of global humanitarian law.

The FM explained that the situation in Palestine shows everyone clear violations of global humanitarian law and breaches of the Geneva Conventions, expressing the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s (KSA) condemnation of the atrocities committed by Israel, which violated basic principles of human rights, the SPA added.

He mentioned that the bitter reality in Gaza will affect world security and the credibility of UN bodies by allowing the selective implementation of global law, expressing the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s (KSA) rejection of the continuation of this suffering, and its support for the position of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights calling for an immediate truce, and for Israel to ensure the basic needs of population in the Gaza Strip.

The FM stressed the significance of granting Palestinians the right to a dignified life, the right to basic necessities, the right to safety, the right to appropriate shelter, and above all they have a right to self-determination, the SPA maintained.

“We will continue to call for an urgent truce, ensuring safe passage for sufficient help to enter the Gaza Strip, releasing all civilian hostages, and placing us on a credible track of just and sustainable peace” the FM declared at the end of his speech.
