JEDDAH: Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Prince Mohammed bin Salman, held a phone conversation with Kuwait’s Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah during which the two sides reaffirmed their commitment to the regional peace.

They discussed the latest developments in the region, particularly the ceasefire agreement reached between the United States of America and Iran, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Wednesday.

They praised the fruitful efforts of Pakistan to help reach a ceasefire agreement between the US and Iran.

They also affirmed the commitment of Saudi Arabia and Kuwait to support all efforts aimed at achieving stability and security in the region.

Earlier, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that the United States, its allies, and Iran had agreed to a ceasefire “everywhere”, including Lebanon, following mediation by his government to stop weeks of fighting.

“I am pleased to announce that the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America, along with their allies, have agreed to an immediate ceasefire everywhere, including Lebanon and elsewhere, EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY,” Sharif posted on X.

He added that Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad, would welcome delegations from both countries on Friday to hold negotiations aimed at reaching a “conclusive agreement”.

“We earnestly hope that the ‘Islamabad Talks’ succeed in achieving sustainable peace and wish to share more good news in the coming days,” he said.

Saudi Arabia welcomed the two-week ceasefire reached between the US and Iran and brokered through Pakistan-led diplomacy, calling for a comprehensive deal to bring stability back to the region.

The Kingdom’s statement comes amid broad international support for the truce, with world leaders praising Pakistan’s role in facilitating dialogue and helping avert further escalation in the Middle East.

The ceasefire has opened a critical diplomatic window, with Pakistan set to host talks between Washington and Tehran in Islamabad.

The breakthrough followed direct engagement between US President Donald Trump and Pakistan’s leadership, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The agreement, reached after weeks of conflict, includes a temporary reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and sets the stage for negotiations aimed at a durable resolution.
