RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Border Guard in the Tabuk Region has launched a volunteer initiative to clean the seabed at Umm Anam Beach.
The initiative aimed to remove waste and debris from the marine environment and help maintain the cleanliness and ecological health of the coastal area, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Sunday.
The participating divers worked to collect discarded materials from the seabed, contributing to efforts to reduce marine pollution and protect marine life.

The initiative reflects the Border Guard’s continued efforts to safeguard marine ecosystems, preserve biodiversity and protect natural resources.
It also highlights the importance of community participation in environmental protection and promotes a culture of volunteerism, teamwork and social responsibility.
Raising environmental awareness
Such initiatives contribute to raising environmental awareness among members of the community and encouraging greater public involvement in preserving coastal and marine habitats.
The efforts are also aligned with broader objectives of sustainable environmental management and the protection of natural resources for future generations.
It is pertinent to mention that last month the Border Guard in the Makkah region conducted a volunteer initiative to clean the seabed at Salman Bay Beach in Jeddah governorate, with the participation of 30 volunteers.
The campaign was part of the Border Guard’s environmental and community programs aimed at preserving the Kingdom’s marine and coastal environment while reinforcing its role in protecting natural resources alongside its security responsibilities.

The campaign included diving operations at designated sites to recover underwater waste, helping protect marine ecosystems while reducing hazards to swimmers, divers, and marine vessels.
Saudi Arabia to host Global Coral Reef Summit
Saudi Arabia will also host the world’s first Global Coral Reef Summit in the fourth quarter of this year, reaffirming its international leadership in protecting marine ecosystems and highlighting its advanced role in spearheading global efforts to address environmental challenges.
The Kingdom’s hosting of the summit was announced during the Saudi House event held on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting 2026 in Davos.
Saudi Arabia is organising the summit through SHAMS in its capacity as Chair of the International Coral Reef Initiative (ICRI), which includes 45 member countries, reflecting international confidence in the Kingdom’s leading role in protecting coral reefs worldwide.
