NEW YORK: Saudi Arabia has urged strengthening partnerships with UN agencies and developing new mechanisms to ensure aid reaches beneficiaries more efficiently.

Saudi Arabia’s Representative to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) Donor Support Group (ODSG) and King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) Assistant Supervisor General of Planning and Development Dr. Aqeel Al-Ghamdi made the call at a high-level ODSG meeting at the German Mission to the UN in New York, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Friday.

Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher, along with representatives from various donor countries, attended the meeting.

Al-Ghamdi highlighted the importance of sustained support for international humanitarian initiatives and funding in conflict and disaster zones. He called for strengthening partnerships with OCHA and other UN agencies, while developing new mechanisms to ensure aid reaches beneficiaries more efficiently.

He noted that the Kingdom’s active participation underscores its leading role as a major international donor through KSrelief and reaffirms its commitment to the principles of the UN Charter.

Participants reviewed strategic priorities, including preparations for the 2026 Global Humanitarian Overview, evaluating past outcomes, and addressing the growing humanitarian needs in crisis-affected areas. Discussions stressed the need to enhance current financing models to ensure the sustainability of humanitarian resources and maximize their impact.

The meeting also focused on bolstering the donor community’s influence in shaping the international humanitarian agenda and driving reforms in global humanitarian governance.
