ISLAMABAD: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has provided a Rs 150 million development grant to the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) to modernise its academic infrastructure, strengthening technology-enabled learning and research facilities at the university.
The grant was extended as Saudi Arabia marked its National Day and will support the first phase of a wider initiative to upgrade teaching and academic facilities at IIUI.

Smart classrooms to be established across faculties
Under the project, classrooms, computer laboratories, information technology systems and other academic facilities will be upgraded to meet contemporary teaching and research requirements.
A dedicated smart classroom will be established in each faculty, with every classroom equipped with an interactive smart board, digital podium and dedicated Wi-Fi connectivity. Each facility will have a capacity of up to 30 students.
The project will also establish five computer laboratories featuring 55 workstations and a total of 220 computer systems, including desktops, virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) systems and laptops.
The upgraded facilities will also include CCTV systems, furniture, curtains and other essential equipment and interior improvements.
Initiative aimed at improving student learning environment
IIUI said the project would give students and faculty greater access to digital learning resources, modern laboratories and technology-supported teaching spaces.
The initiative forms part of a broader infrastructure improvement drive led by Acting Rector/President of IIUI, Prof. Dr Ahmed Saad Alahmed, with a particular focus on student welfare and improving facilities across the university.
Over the past year, the university administration has undertaken visits to hostels and academic areas and engaged directly with students to identify infrastructure-related challenges and prioritise practical improvements.
The phased renovation of student hostels is already underway, while the upgrading of classrooms and computer laboratories represents another major component of the university’s development efforts.

IIUI welcomes Saudi support
The university expressed gratitude to the Government of Saudi Arabia for its financial assistance, describing the grant as a reflection of the Kingdom’s longstanding support for IIUI and the enduring fraternal ties between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.
IIUI said the upgraded facilities would help provide students with learning environments in line with contemporary global educational trends and strengthen the university’s ability to deliver quality higher education in an increasingly technology-driven environment.
