RIYADH: Saudi Arabia on Monday strongly condemned the Israeli occupation’s continued violations in the region, especially into the Syrian territory and artillery shelling in the governorates of Quneitra and Daraa.

“The Kingdom expresses its total rejection of the intimidation of innocent civilians by the Israeli occupation forces and their violations of international law and norms,” Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Saudi Arabia stressed the need to end Israeli violations of Syria’s sovereignty and to uphold the 1974 Disengagement Agreement in a way that safeguards regional security and stability. It also reaffirmed its support for Syria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and unity.

Syria has also condemned the renewed Israeli attacks and military incursions into its territory, calling on the United Nations and the international community to take action to halt what it said were repeated violations of its sovereignty, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported on Sunday.

According to the Syrian Foreign Ministry, Israeli forces entered Syrian territory in the southern provinces of Quneitra and Daraa and shelled parts of the area.

The ministry said the operations terrorised civilians and amounted to a blatant violation of Syrian sovereignty, international law, the UN Charter, and the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.

In a statement carried by SANA, the ministry said the continued attacks undermine efforts to restore security and stability, worsen the humanitarian situation for civilians, and risk further escalating tensions across the region.

Israel captured most of the Golan Heights from Syria in the 1967 Middle East war and also annexed the strategic plateau in 1981, a move not recognised by most of the global community.
