RIYADH: Saudi Arabia has so far implemented 9,030 humanitarian, development and charitable projects worth more than $145 billion across 175 countries, as the Kingdom marked the International Day of Charity on Saturday.
The Kingdom ranked second globally and first among Arab countries in providing humanitarian and relief assistance in 2025, according to the United Nations Financial Tracking Service.
Established in May 2015 under royal directives, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) serves as the Kingdom’s dedicated organisation for delivering international humanitarian assistance.

Since its establishment, the centre has implemented 4,457 relief projects in 113 countries, with total allocations exceeding $8 billion, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Saturday.
KSrelief also oversees specialised humanitarian initiatives, including the Saudi Programme for Conjoined Twins.
The programme has assessed 158 cases and successfully carried out 72 separation operations involving twins from 28 countries across five continents, while covering the costs of treatment, travel and rehabilitation.
At Saudi Arabia’s initiative, the United Nations officially designated November 24 as World Conjoined Twins Day in 2024.
Thousands of volunteers involved in overseas missions
Through the Saudi Portal for External Volunteering, 84,388 volunteers have taken part in 1,446 medical and training missions across 59 countries. The missions have benefited more than 2.85 million people and resulted in 273,350 surgical procedures.
Meanwhile, the electronic donation platform Sahem has raised more than SAR 1.701 billion (approximately US$453 million) from over 9.82 million donors, helping support sustainable humanitarian operations. Other initiatives include the Saudi Aid Platform and registers supporting refugees.
International recognition for humanitarian work
The Kingdom’s humanitarian efforts have received international recognition, including the Arab League’s 2024 Family and Child Friendly Institutions Award for its support for Palestinian families.

KSrelief has also received the Global Humanitarian Achievement Award from the National Council on US-Arab Relations.
The initiatives form part of Saudi Arabia’s broader Vision 2030 agenda and reflect the Kingdom’s stated commitment to strengthening its role in global humanitarian and charitable efforts.
