JEDDAH: Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, has launched a major artificial intelligence project named ‘HUMAIN’, which will operate and invest across the AI spectrum.

Chaired by the Crown Prince, HUMAIN will provide a comprehensive range of AI services, products, and tools, including next-generation data centres, AI infrastructure and cloud capabilities, and advanced AI models and solutions, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Monday.

The company will introduce one of the world’s most advanced multimodal Arabic large language models (LLMs).

It aims to build and deploy AI solutions at local, regional, and global levels. HUMAIN is committed to enhancing human potential and driving innovation, helping unlock new opportunities within the digital economy.

The Public Investment Fund (PIF) and its portfolio companies are actively investing in the development of a robust AI ecosystem and forming strategic international partnerships in the field.

These efforts are strengthened by Saudi Arabia’s unique value proposition—its strategic geographic location at the crossroads of three continents, its strong economic growth outlook, and a young, tech-savvy population—all of which support advanced data processing and foster innovation in AI research.

PIF’s strategy in AI and the digital economy aims to position Saudi Arabia as a globally competitive hub by driving innovation and building national capabilities.

As part of its mission to support economic development and diversification, these initiatives contribute to establishing the Kingdom as a leader in the global AI landscape.

Reflecting this progress, the Global AI Index (2024) ranked Saudi Arabia first in the world for government AI strategy.

HUMAIN will also streamline various data centre initiatives, procure hardware, and accelerate the adoption of AI technologies.

The company will serve as a regional and global AI hub for strategic sectors, including energy, healthcare, manufacturing, and financial services.

The company will also foster local innovation and the creation of intellectual property, and achieve national AI aspirations.

This includes strengthening Saudi Arabia’s position as a global leader in advancing data and AI technologies, while also attracting top talent and investment opportunities from both local and international markets.
