RIYADH: Saudi Arabia and Iran have stressed the importance of continuing joint efforts to achieve lasting and sustainable stability in the region.
Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan on Monday received a phone call from Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and reviewed regional developments, the Foreign Ministry said.
During the call, the Saudi Foreign Minister welcomed the agreement reached between Iran and the United States to end military operations and start detailed negotiations to reach a permanent agreement.

The Saudi Foreign Minister expressed the Kingdom’s aspiration to achieve peace that enhances the security of the region and the world.
Earlier, in a statement, Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry said the kingdom welcomed the understanding between Washington and Tehran, which envisages an end to hostilities and the start of detailed talks within the next 60 days aimed at achieving a lasting agreement.
Riyadh praised the mediation efforts undertaken by Pakistan and Qatar and acknowledged the constructive response shown by both the United States and Iran, which helped pave the way for the accord.

The kingdom stressed the need to restore security and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz to conditions prevailing before February 28 and expressed hope that the initiative would contribute to strengthening regional and international security.

US President Donald Trump declared on his Truth Social platform that a deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran had been completed, while Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced earlier on Monday that a peace agreement between the United States and Iran had been reached following intensive diplomatic efforts in which Pakistan played a mediating role.
The memorandum of understanding (MoU) would be formally signed in Switzerland on June 19.
Pakistan has consistently supported diplomatic efforts during the period of tensions between the United States and Iran and remained committed to peaceful solutions to international disputes.
