Riyadh says incoming projectiles targeted capital region as Gulf states face spillover from Iran conflict

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defense said it detected two incoming ballistic missiles and multiple drones on Monday, with one missile intercepted over Riyadh and seven drones destroyed in the Eastern Region.

The ministry said in a statement that two ballistic missiles were launched towards the Riyadh region, adding that air defenses successfully intercepted one of them, while the second fell in an uninhabited area without causing casualties.

“Two ballistic missiles were launched towards the Riyadh region, one of which was intercepted and the other fell in an uninhabited area,” the ministry posted on social media.

 The Ministry of Defense said in a separate statement posted on social media that air defense forces also intercepted and destroyed seven drones that were targeting sites in the Eastern Region.

The ministry affirmed the readiness and efficiency of the Kingdom’s air defense systems in confronting such threats and protecting civilians and vital infrastructure.
