ISLAMABAD/RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Imam Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Royal Reserve Development Authority has kicked off a project to research and document cultural sites to protect, rehabilitate and develop a national heritage within the scope of the King Khalid Royal Reserve for a month.
Archaeological survey
According to the Arab News, the project was launched in cooperation with the heritage commission and in implementation of the memorandum of understanding concluded between the two parties.
The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) said that a team of scientific specialists had been formed to begin the research, document antiquities or heritage and began surveying archaeological places within the scope of the King Khalid Royal Reserve.
Two hundred sites have been surveyed so far, it said in a statement.
An official confirmed that the King Khalid Royal Reserve is a historical heritage that includes a number of archaeological sites, rock art sites, and a number of historical palaces.
A project aims to document, protect and develop the national heritage and raise awareness surrounding it.
