ISLAMABAD: Sajid Sadpara has a mission and that is to honour his late father and protect the mountain where his remains are buried, K-2, the world second highest peak at 8611 metres.
He is at present cleaning the mountain along with friends as the original beauty of the mountain has been tarnished with climbers influx at the end of the season.
The world’s highest centre stage is Everest in Nepal and after that is K-2 more difficult and more prized. These two mountains are littered with trash everywhere.
Sajid Sadpara is one of the most prolific climbers at the national scene. He along with father Ali Sadpara attempted K2 in 2021 along with international climbers and the team met a tragic end.
Sajid lost his father and found the remains of his father near Camp 4 at 7800 metres high approximately.
As a devout son, the mountaineer holds a special place in his heart. He made the summit during the season and on his way back along with his team, he cleared the high camps from ropes, oxygen cannisters and batteries.
He considers himself as the custodian of the mountain and restoring it back to its original grandeur is his mission.
Italians in 1954 made the first ascent of the mountain where temperatures can go down to minus 40 degrees Celsius.
