WASHINGTON: Russian President Vladimir Putin’s special envoy Kirill Dmitriev held talks with US officials in Washington on Monday on efforts to end the war in Ukraine and possible Russian-US energy projects after the conflict.
Dmitriev, who also heads Russia’s sovereign wealth fund RDIF, held meetings with representatives of the US Treasury and Energy departments, according to sources familiar with the talks cited by Russia’s state-run TASS news agency.

A US administration official told Reuters that Dmitriev’s visit was aimed at continuing “constructive discussions on a peaceful resolution to the Russia-Ukraine conflict and possible US-Russia energy initiatives after the war ends”.

Dmitriev’s Washington visit followed recent meetings between US special envoy Steve Witkoff, presidential adviser Jared Kushner and Putin in Moscow.
The visit also followed Witkoff and Kushner’s discussions with Ukrainian officials in New York last week.
Dmitriev had earlier met Kushner and Witkoff in New York, TASS reported, citing sources familiar with the discussions.
Representatives from the US Treasury and Energy departments attended some of the Washington meetings, the sources said.
The talks also covered broader Russian-US economic cooperation, according to TASS.
The meetings come after US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy met in New York last week. Reuters reported that the two leaders discussed a possible ceasefire covering attacks on energy-related targets.
Witkoff and Kushner also met Putin in Moscow earlier this month as Washington pursued diplomatic efforts to end the conflict.
Meanwhile, The Atlantic magazine reported that Trump favours a proposal under which the United States would lift some sanctions if Russia released a number of political prisoners.
The report comes as Washington continues contacts with both Moscow and Kyiv in an effort to revive negotiations and establish a path towards ending the conflict.
