KYIV: Russia and Ukraine have traded large-scale overnight drone strikes, hitting targets far beyond the battlefield as the war enters another phase of intensified aerial attacks.
Ukrainian authorities said Russian drones struck central Kyiv and the southern Odesa region, killing one person and injuring at least 10 others, while Russian officials reported a major Ukrainian drone assault on the Black Sea resort city of Sochi and surrounding areas.

The attacks caused fires and damage to civilian and administrative infrastructure, underscoring the expanding reach of drone warfare as both sides continue to target strategic sites deep inside each other’s territory.
Russian Strikes Hit Kyiv, Odesa
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said a Russian drone struck the headquarters of Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) on Volodymyrska Street in central Kyiv, directly targeting the office of the agency’s chief.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said five people were injured in the capital. Heavy black smoke was reported rising from the area near St Sophia Cathedral.
Russian strikes have destroyed 90% of Ukraine’s modern storage facilities for various types of goods, according to Ukraine’s Agricultural Minister Taras Vysotsky.

In the Odesa region, one person was killed and five others injured in overnight Russian strikes, regional governor Oleh Kiper said.
The attacks damaged civilian infrastructure, including administrative buildings and private and official vehicles, according to Ukrainian authorities.
Ukraine’s Air Force said Russia launched 121 drones and one missile during the overnight assault, claiming that 103 aerial targets were suppressed.
Ukraine Strikes Russian Infrastructure
Russian authorities, meanwhile, reported a large Ukrainian drone attack on Sochi and the nearby Sirius federal territory on the Black Sea coast.
The Krasnodar regional operational headquarters said falling drone debris sparked a fire at an oil depot. No casualties were initially reported, although residential buildings and other structures were said to have been damaged.
Russia’s Defence Ministry said its air defences destroyed 490 Ukrainian drones over Russian territory, Crimea and the Black Sea during the overnight attacks.
Russian authorities also said their forces struck Ukrainian military logistics and energy infrastructure, including a logistics centre in the Kyiv region, vessels allegedly carrying military supplies at Yuzhny port and a fuel terminal at Chornomorsk.
The claims made by both sides could not be independently verified.
