MOSCOW: A Russian investigator has said that Ukraine had struck and destroyed a third bridge over the Seym river in Russia’s Kursk region a day earlier, where Russian troops have been battling Kyiv’s forces for about two weeks.
A representative for Russia’s Investigative Committee stated that on August 18, as a result of targeted shelling with the use of artillery weapons and rocket against residential compounds and civilian infrastructure in the Karyzh village, a third bridge over the Seym river was destroyed.
The video message was uploaded on Russian state TV anchor Vladimir Solovyov’s social media channel. Russian troops have been fighting Ukrainian forces in Kursk region since August 6, when thousands of Ukrainians forces smashed through Russia’s western border in a major embarrassment for the Russian military top brass.
The Russian ministry for foreign affairs said on Friday that Kyiv had used Western rockets, likely U.S.-made HIMARS, to damage a bridge over the Seym river in the Glushkovo district.
In a separate video statement uploaded to Solovyov’s social media channel on Sunday, a representative for Russian investigators stated a second bridge over the Seym near the village of Zvannoe in Kursk region used to evacuate civilian population had been “damaged” by American-made HIMARS.
Earlier, Ukraine’s air force commander has claimed that the Ukrainian air force had damaged that second bridge, thus limiting the supply capacity of a Russian group opposing the Ukrainian advance.
