MOSCOW: Russia and Pakistan have discussed key regional and international developments, with a particular focus on the rising tensions in the Middle East and their potential impact on regional stability.

Deputy Foreign Minister Georgy Borisенко held a meeting with Pakistan’s ambassador to Russia, Faisal Niaz Tirmizi in Moscow, where the both sides held detailed discussions on a range of issues of mutual interest, Russian media reported.

During the meeting they also exchanged views on recent developments and their potential implications for regional stability.

The talks further covered broader global challenges and areas of cooperation between the two countries. Both officials stressed the importance of maintaining close diplomatic engagement and continuing dialogue to strengthen bilateral relations and promote stability in the region.

Tensions in the Gulf region have escalated following coordinated strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran on February 28. The attacks have further reduced hopes for a diplomatic resolution to Tehran’s long-running dispute with Western countries and Israel over its nuclear programme.

In response, Iran announced it was targeting American military bases in several Gulf states. These strikes were strongly condemned by the affected countries, which reported that some attacks damaged civilian infrastructure.

Pakistan condemned both the initial strikes on Iran and Iran’s subsequent retaliatory attacks across the region, urging all sides to exercise restraint and work toward de-escalation to prevent further conflict.
