DOHA: Football legend Cristiano Ronaldo said on Monday that his ongoing rift with Manchester United would not adversely impact the Portugal team at the World Cup in Qatar.
Ronaldo, who was suspended for the United’s 1-1 draw at Chelsea after not playing as a substitute against Tottenham last month, shocked reporters at the World Cup as he made an unexpected appearance at a press conference.
The forward who will be leading his country in the football world cup in Qatar defended his infamous Manchester United interview with Piers Morgan, in which he levelled numerous allegations and accusations at his club.
The 37-year-old had claimed during the interview that he felt “betrayed by the club”, saying that he had “no respect” for the Premier League club manager Erik Ten Hag.
His interview has dominated the media, but he was quick to ask for the world’s press to stop asking his team-mates about it as he looks to focus on the World Cup.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldo will lead Portugal into their opening Group H game against Ghana on Thursday.
