ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s electronic media regulator has disposed of a record 637 complaints related to broadcast content and wages/salaries over the past two years, marking the highest number of cases resolved by any Council of Complaints since the establishment of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA).
The milestone was highlighted during the 121st meeting of the PEMRA Council of Complaints, Islamabad, held at the regulator’s headquarters on Friday.
This was the first Council meeting after notification by the Federal Government on July 20, 2026. The meeting was chaired by Syed Muhammad Ali whereas members who attended this meeting included Fauzia Shahid, Gauhar Zahid Malik, Dr. Surayya Kanwal Afridi and Kaiwan Hamid Raja, according to a press release issued on Saturday.
Secretary of the Council gave a detailed briefing on the status of all pending complaints and performance of the Council during the past two years.

The Council of Complaints, Islamabad disposed of 637 complaints related to content and wages/salaries matters in 38 council meetings held during the past two years, which is a record for all council of complaints since the establishment of PEMRA.
During the meeting, the Council also reviewed the implementation status of its recommendations. The Council inquired about the Landing Rights Permission holders and distribution of foreign channels on distribution networks in Pakistan.
The Council recommended to the Authority that for public interest, fair and equitable media industry environment and effective regulation of both national and foreign electronic media content broadcast inside Pakistan, it is essential that all distributors should be directed to ensure immediate, complete and transparent compliance of Section 19 and Section 19 sub-section 2 of the PEMRA Ordinance (Amended), 2007 which requires that only licensed foreign channels should be allowed to be relayed by the distributors.
The Council also adjudicated nine content related agenda matters during the meeting.
