YANGON: A coalition of ethnic insurgent groups in Myanmar have vowed to defeat the country’s dictatorship, Western media reported on Wednesday.
Fighting between the army and rebel groups has intensified in recent weeks in Myanmar, though the ruling military said it conducted China-mediated talks with the rebels.
Three Brotherhood Alliance has carried out coordinated attacks on military targets near border with China.
The assault on army has presented the biggest battlefield challenge to the ruling junta since a 2021 coup.
The Three Brotherhood Alliance in post on X said significant progress is made in talks but achieving our complete goals needs more time. The group said its dedication towards the entire Myanmar population remains strong.
The military has said it had round of talks with rebels and other parties to the conflict and more discussions are due by the end of the month.
China happy on peace talks
China’s foreign ministry has expressed pleasure on peace talks between parties to the Myanmar conflict saying it is willing to provide further support.
The fighting, largely in northern Shan state, has raised concern in China, with an estimated 300,000 people displaced since the conflict began on October, 27. According to the United Nations, more than 2 million people have been forced to flee their homes since the coup.
