Rawalpindi Stadium to Go Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness as Pakistan Face South Africa in First T20I

The Pakistan Cricket Board partners with Pink Ribbon Pakistan for the first T20I on October 28, blending cricket and compassion to raise awareness for a life-saving cause.

RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium will take on a pink hue on October 28 as Pakistan face South Africa in the opening T20 International of the three-match series. The event marks the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) latest effort to combine sport with social impact through its partnership with Pink Ribbon Pakistan during global Breast Cancer Awareness Month — known as #PINKtober.

As part of its corporate social responsibility, the Pakistan Cricket Board is supporting the Pink Ribbon Pakistan to create awareness about breast cancer as this initiative is a part of #PINKtober, which is breast cancer awareness month, PCB announced in a statement.

As part of the campaign, Pakistan’s players will don special pink-themed kits, while the South African team, match officials, coaching staff, and commentators will wear pink ribbons in solidarity with the cause. Even the stumps will be painted pink, and awareness messages will be shared throughout the live broadcast.

Visitors in Lahore will also be offered free clinical examinations and screenings on match day at the Pink Ribbon Breast Cancer Trust Hospital near Kalma Chowk.

“The coaching staff and commentators will also wear pink ribbons throughout the match,” it said.

‘Cricket’s Power to Save Lives’

PCB Chief Operating Officer Sumair Ahmed Syed said the board takes “immense pride in using the power and reach of cricket to create awareness about causes that affect our society.”

“Through the Pink Ribbon campaign, we aim to highlight the importance of early detection and regular screening for breast cancer, which can save countless lives,” he said. “This initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to corporate social responsibility. We are grateful to both teams, match officials, broadcasters and fans for joining hands in supporting this vital cause.”

Pink Ribbon CEO Umar Aftab welcomed the collaboration, saying the campaign shows how the sport can be used to inspire action and unity.

“We are grateful to the Pakistan Cricket Board for supporting Pink Ribbon through this special cricket match. This collaboration aims to raise national awareness about breast cancer and highlight the importance of early detection,” he said. “Cricket unites our nation and today, it’s uniting us for a life-saving cause.”
